Meallan Ùdraigil

Meallan Ùdraigil (Mellon Udrigle) beach on the north west coast. Loosely translated from Gaelic, it means something along the lines of “the beach of the lumpy sand dunes”. It was one of those calm beach days with the threat of something more ominous in the distance. When I say calm, it really was pleasantly calm and warm at the shoreside with the waves lapping gently on the shore, and with no one about, I had the beach pretty much to myself! The little rock was intentionally chosen for foreground interest, but I do remember that it almost seemed to be yearning to be back with the mountains in the distance – perhaps where it came from. Shot on my favourite colour film for those muted pastel tones.
