Black and white film development recipes

Here are my soup recipes and times for the various black and white developers that I use. These are for the Paterson tank system.

Developer
Iflosol 3
One shot only
1 +9 dilution to give 500ml

Fuji Neopan Acros 100
(I shoot Acros exposing at ISO 80 (pushing)
5 minutes development @ 20 degrees
Agitation steps
First 30 secs constant agitation/inversion
End of 1st minute – 2 inversions
End of 2nd-5th minutes – 2 inversions

Wash for 30 secs (I don’t use a stop bath)

Fixer
Ilford Rapid Fix
Reuse
1 + 4 dilution to make 500ml
4-5 minutes.
First 30 secs constant agitation/inversion
End of 1st minute – 2 inversions
End of 2nd-5th minutes – 2 inversions

Wash (Very important)
The wash step removes the pinkish purple anti-halation dye from the film so it is very important that you wash till clear. Typically I will wash for 20-30 minutes in a trickle flow. I remove the top from the tank, place a funnel inside the centre column and set the tap to trickle flow.

Wetting bath
4-5 drops photo flo in 500ml

Drying
For 5×4 sheets, I dry inside a kitchen cupboard. Sheets are hung using metal paper clips at th corner edges. (Do not squeegy the sheets)
For 120 film, I dry inside a cold cupboard. Neopan can curl if the drying is too quick.

De-curling negs.
If your roll film still has memory or curl, do not cut the film at this stage. Instead, note the curl and wind on to a dry tank reel the opposite way to the curl. Leave the roll in a cool dust free place for 24 hours and when you come to take it off the reel, the negs will be perfectly flat.
