This two day course is suitable for beginners and intermediates learning the art of film photography and traditional darkroom printing. Taking place at my custom built darkroom in rural Perthshire, you will spend the first day shooting and developing black and white film. On the second day, you will learn basic darkroom skills leading on to creating and toning a fine art print to take home with you.
Day one starts with coffee and introductions, after which we will venture out into the outdoors or in my studio to shoot a roll of black and white film. Once shooting is complete, we will head back to my darkroom to develop the film using two different methods then break for lunch. After lunch, we make a contact print and a scan test to compare. We will select the best image then spend time learning how to make test strips.
Day two will be based in the darkroom. In the morning we will progress from the basic test strip to learn split grade printing where we will fine tune for the final image. After lunch, we will spend time on your prints looking and deceiding how to enhance the print using didging & burning and sepia toning to produce a fine art – archival print to take home with you.
